The Gauthali's Path
Sharing the joy of growing up in Darjeeling Himalayas
We are Sasank and Simran. We love nature, traveling, and the nostalgia of old things.
Gauthali as an extension of our journey, rooted in nurturing our relationship with our food and land. It is an initiative that celebrates Darjeeling’s edible biodiversity.
As children, we grew up among a community homesteaders. A typical day involved Ama sharing her farm fresh plum jam with Aunty next door, or her bringing over some juicy saadheko oranges.
By championing homemade recipes and rustic ingredinets from our Mother's backyards, we hope to share the nostalgic recollection of a sunny day of biting into those oranges as the Gauthali chirped nearby.

कथाkokatha
The Eastern Himalayan Region within the Indian subcontinent comprises the Darjeeling hills, Kalimpong hills, and the State of Sikkim. Although the lingua franca here is Nepali, the region is much diverse in community and dialect. These geographically diverse hills and plains have garnered accolades in the past as tourist accommodation, scenic setting for films, and the very image of serenity. However, as a vantage amidst mountains, rivers, and Nations, the region has brewed a community of folks with many stories worth sharing. Kathakokatha is a humble attempt to capture, critique, and digitally document written narratives from the region.
